Services Offered at WTS

Individualized occupational therapy sessions integrate an S2C informed, motor-based approach to support nonspeaking and unreliably speaking individuals in developing the purposeful motor skills needed for spelled communication. Sessions may target motor planning, coordination, oculomotor skills, sensory-motor regulation, body awareness, and apraxia informed motor support to improve reliable and intentional access to the letterboard. All services are grounded in the presumption of competence, with intervention individualized to each person’s motor and regulation needs.

Communication Regulation Partner (CRP) training equips parents and caregivers with the skills and confidence to support spelling practice beyond therapy sessions. Training focuses on regulation, positioning, appropriate prompting, letterboard technique, motor support, and presuming competence so caregivers can provide consistent opportunities for purposeful motor practice and spelled communication at home. The goal is to help families reinforce and expand skills across everyday environments, increasing practice, consistency, independence, and opportunities for meaningful communication.

Group spelling sessions provide opportunities for spellers to use their communication skills to connect directly with peers, share ideas, participate in conversation, and build relationships in a supportive environment. Sessions incorporate purposeful motor and regulation support while creating meaningful opportunities to practice spelled communication within real social interactions. The goal is to move beyond skill building alone and create space for authentic communication, self expression, connection, and community among spellers.
